Resumen:
This introduction uses an alternative narrative (constructed as an exchange of letters between two friends: one doing fielwork in the Amazone and the other working in London in the late 19th century) to bring to the fore the tensions between a modern approach to sensory experience (based on the model of rational science, the five senses of Aristotelian thought, occularcentrism, the naturalization of racial and social differences, among others) and a challenging standpoint (considering the importance of corporeality, synesthesia, the awareness of the cultural construction of the sensorium, social difference, etc).
