Resumen:
In this review the theory that supports the MEGNO method, is revisited. We provide several examples of its application to different dynamical systems, ranging from the simplest ones to more complex scenarios and considering both maps and flows of two and higher dimensions. Besides we compare this "fast" dynamical indicator against many others based on the very same concept, the time evolution of the deviation vectors, and we explicitly show the relation between the MEGNO and some of them. Finally we discuss, according to our own point of view and experience, the efficiency of several chaos detection methods.
