Resumen:
For the study of the dynamics of systems like galaxies, planetary systems, as well as many other physical systems, we need to know how to identify their stability and instability domains. This can be done by means of the so-called chaos indicators. A particular family of such indicators, named variational indicators, are those based on the time evolution of the so-called deviation vectors along particular orbits. In this work, a comparison will be presented of several variational indicators, using as a probe model the 2D Hénon & Heiles potential. All indicators are computed by means of a computer program created by the authors, the LP-VIcode. The aim of this comparison is to unravel the key advantages and disadvantages of each indicator, in order to provide criteria for the proper selection of indicator suited in a particular dynamical study.
