Resumen:
The spiral structure of the Galaxy, this is, the number of spiral arms, the location of the Sun in respect of the plane itself as well as the discextension, along with other morphological traits, are still debatablematter. We face a controversial scene that has led to large errors in thepast such as interpreting a young stellar population -not expected incurrent galactic models- like an extra-galactic one. Despite the largedata collection in several wavelengths, our knowledge of the Galaxystructure has been stuck there, mainly because of countless biases inthe adopted tracers of galaxy structure. In this talk I shall focus onpositive and negative aspects to consider when addressing the problemof the structure and dimension of our galaxy. In particular I shall givethe reasons why open clusters are the best tracers of spiral structure. Finally, results from an international collaboration during the last yearsare given to describe the way we analyzed the spiral structure outsidethe solar circle, providing new insights for interpreting data from openclusters and star fields where they are seen projected.
