Ultra-high energy photon studies with the Pierre Auger Observatory
THE PIERRE AUGER COLLABORATION (AUTOR 434 DE 474); M. TUEROS
Conferencia; 31st International Cosmic Ray Conference; 2009
While the most likely candidates for cosmic rays above 1018 eV are protons and nuclei, many of the scenarios of cosmic ray origin predictin addition a photon component. Detection of this component is not only of importance for cosmic-ray physics but would also open a new research window with impact on astrophysics, cosmology, particle andfundamental physics. The Pierre Auger Observatory can be used for photon searches of unprecedented sensitivity. At this conference, the status of this search will be reported. In particular the first experimentallimits at EeV energies will be presented.
