Resumen:
Graphene is a  two dimensional material with unique electronic properties. Its extremely high mobility carriers and almost ballistic transport, consequence of the linear band dispersion at the Fermi level, make italmost the perfect candidate for switching devices. But the absence ofan energy gap represents a major problem and seriously limits itstechnological application. Therefore, to open up a gap in clean andsmooth graphene constitutes a relevant problem both from the point ofview of fundamental physics and for technological applications. In this talk I will comment on the gap opening in graphene depositedon top of a hexagonal Boron Nitride (hBN) substrate, as a consequenceof a spontaneous strain induced on the graphene layer.
