Spin Squeezing in presence of dissipative interactions

Resumen:
The transfer of spin between an incoming radiation ¯eld and localized atomic spin-levels, for a chain of two-level atoms, is studied. The Hamiltonian of the system is modelled by a radiation term and by atom-atom and radiation-atom interactions. Dissipative e®ects are accounted for by including, as a perturbation, an atom-photon exchange-interaction of the exponential type and complex strength. It is found that the spin-squeezing is heavily suppressed by the dissipative term. Calculations are performed for arrays of rubidium atoms exposed to a Neon laser.
