Resumen:
2-Benzoylpyridine semicarbazone (H2BzPS) and its complexes [Cu(H2BzPS)Cl2] (1) and [Zn(H2BzPS)Cl2] (2) have been synthesized and their spectral properties have been studied. The electrochemical behaviour of [Cu(H2BzPS)Cl2] (1) has been investigated. [Cu(H2BzPS)Cl2] (1) crystallizes in the triclinic P-1 space group, a=9.278(1), b=12.848(1), c=13.923(1) A, alpha=84.54(1), beta=71.91(1), gamma=85.14(1)º, with two complexes per asymmetric unit (Z=4) and a disordered methanol solvent molecule (occupancy=1/4). [Zn(H2BzPS)Cl2] (2) crystallizes in the orthorhombic P212121 space group with a=11.983(1), b=14.067(1), c=18.706(1) A, and two independent molecules per asymmetric unit (Z=8). In both cases, the neutral semicarbazone acts as a bidentate ligand which coordinates the metal through the pyridine and imine nitrogen atoms and the carbonyl oxygen. Two chloride ions occupy the fourth and fifth coordination positions.
