Resumen:
The surfacedetectorarrayofthePierreAugerObservatoryconsistsof1600water-Cherenkovdetectors,
for thestudyofextensiveairshowers(EAS)generatedbyultra-high-energycosmicrays.Wedescribe
the triggerhierarchy,fromtheidentificationofcandidateshowersatthelevelofasingledetector,
amongst alargebackground(mainlyrandomsinglecosmicraymuons),uptotheselectionofreal
eventsandtherejectionofrandomcoincidences.Suchtriggermakesthesurfacedetectorarrayfully
efficientforthedetectionofEASwithenergyabove3 1018 eV, forallzenithanglesbetween03 and 603 ,
independentlyofthepositionoftheimpactpointandofthemassoftheprimaryparticle.Intheserange
of energiesandangles,theexposureofthesurfacearraycanbedeterminedpurelyonthebasisofthe
