Resumen:
In order to analyze the protective effect of cytokines, bacterial flagellin and DNA on avian infections, an oral formulation was administered to different groups of chicks. From a total of 12 groups (15 chick per group), 2 were used as controls, 5 were treated, and 5 were treated and infected with the following pathogens: IBDv (gumboro), GaHV-1 (laryngotracheitis.), H1N1 (avian influenza), NDV (Newcastle virus) y Coccidia (E. tenella, E. acervulina and E máxima). Comparing treated and treated/infected groups, significant differences were observed in terms of microscopic and macroscopic lesions produced by all pathogens. However, only chicks infected with IBDV, Newcastle and Coccidia produced significant differences in the body weight. Our results suggest that cytokines and TLR agonist treatment could reduce the economic losses produced by avian pathogens.
