Resumen:
Recently it was shown that some block copolymers have anisotropic mechanical properties. Moreover, they have been shown to be compatible with biological tissues, and thus, they are promised materials in the development of prosthetic valves1. An example of these polymers is poly (styrene-b-isoprene-b-styrene) (SIS), a biocompatible hybrid copolymer having double bonds, which are susceptible to being functionalized. In the field of modified of block copolymers and to avoid the use of metals as catalysts, an epoxidation methodology of the remaining double bonds using OXONE as an oxidizing agent was developed2. The subsequent nucleophilic opening reaction of the epoxy rings, will allow the functionalization of the polymer chains with different groups including active principles. This study opens the possibility to the development of new controlled release drug delivery systems.
