Resumen:
The presence of pesticides in water used for rinsing of fruits and vegetables in packing plants, is a pressing problem that should be solved in the short time. In this paper we present an alternative method to the classical ones , based in the combination of adsorption followed by oxidation treatment to eliminate the pollutant. The pesticide Imazalil was adsorbed from water suspension at pH 7.0 on montmorillonite exchanged with octadeciltrimethylammonium, desorbed at pH 3.0 and degraded by photo-Fenton process after incorporation of H2O2 and Fe(III) to the suspension. Desorption was performed only in 10% of the initial volume. Total elimination of the pesticide and 40% reduction of soluble organic carbon was obtained after 3 h of treatment, in a batch reactor under UVA illumination. The process was more effective when the modified clay was previously removed from the suspension.
