Resumen:
The Ni(II)?Mg(II)?Al(III) LDH obtained by homogeneous precipitationurea method, after a proper thermal treatment resulted inan active catalyst for the ethanol steam reforming. The results showthat addition of a basic cation such as Mg(II) redounds favorably inthe resistance to carbon deposition. However, in terms of activityand product distribution in ESR reaction, there is an optimal Mg/Ni ratio = 0.33, which shows the best results. This is related to the fact that when Mg/Ni ratio varies, the interaction of Ni0 in the oxide matrix changes, and so it does the nature of the active sites. It can be concluded from this report that the appropriate ratio between the cations Ni(II)?Mg(II)?Al(III), and after a proper reduction treatment, would allow to control the interaction of the Ni0 active centers with the environment and the solids structure, redounding in an improved activity, H2 yield and resistance to carbon deposition.
