Resumen:
The benefical effects of inoculating with Azospirillum brasilense on crop productivity have been widely described, but extensive use in typical agricultural field environments is scarcely documented. The aim of this study was to quantify the productivity of corn (Zea mays) whose seed was inoculated with a liquid formulation containing Azospirillum brasilense INTAAZ-39 strain under typical dryland farming conditions. The study was performed in the 2002-2009 growing seasons, evaluating inoculated and non inoculated seed at 209 experimental locations in the Pampas region Argentina. The inoculated crop exhibited more vigorous vegetative growth, with greater initial plant stand, foliar N, and both shoot and root dry matter accumulation. The inoculation increased the number of grains and grain yield by 514 kg ha-1 (6,9%). Positive responses were determined in about 82% of the sites, independently on the attainable yield crop. -1 (6,9%). Positive responses were determined in about 82% of the sites, independently on the attainable yield crop.
