Resumen:
The beneficial effects of LCO promoter technology on crop productivity have been widely described, but extensive use in typical agricultural field environments is scarcely documented. The objective of this study was to quantify the productivity of corn (Zea mays) in foliar and seed applications of a liquid formulation containing lipoquite-oligosacaride molecules under typical dryland farming conditions. The study was performed in the 20082009 growing seasons, evaluating treated and nontreated crops at 38 experimental locations in the Pampas region of Argentina. Two treatments were evaluated in both i) seeds application untreated and treated with the LCO formulation at a rate of 2 ml kg-1, 30 to 50 days before planting and ii) Foliar applications control with glyphosate and treated with the formulation at a rate of 1.2 L/ha during vegetative stage (V4-V6); in both treatments glyphosate and water were applied at final volume 80L/ha. Mean response in the 38 sites studied was 669 and 100 kg ha-1, for foliar application and seed treatment, respectively. The study suggests that LCO molecules can contribute to increase crop production under typical drayland farming conditions.
