Resumen:
Gatton Panic is a mega-thermal forage grass, highly valued in Central and Northwest Argentina for its productive and adaptive characteristics. By nature, the normal germination power of its seeds ranges from 15 to 26%. There is a growing interest in the country to explore strategies to improve this parameter. Non-thermal plasma (NTP) is a novel technology which ability to improve the quality of seeds of different commercial crops has been demonstrated. The present investigation aimed to evaluate the effects of NTP on the quality of Gatton Panic seeds and on forage production. NTP treatments were obtained through Dielectric Barrier Discharges, and seeds were exposed to them. Subsequently, seeds were subjected to quality analysis, and then their field performance was evaluated. The implementation of this technology as a routine practice is expected to reflect important benefits in the production of high quality forage seeds.
