p { margin-bottom: 0.25cm; direction: ltr; line-height: 120%; text-align: left; }Soybeanis one of the most important crops worldwide. According to FAOSTAT,this crop production and harvested area has dramatically increasedover the last 2 decades.Different strategies have been developed with the aim of improvingseed quality.Non-thermal plasma (NTP) treatment is a fast, economic andpollution-free method. The objective of this study was to determinewhether different non-thermal plasmas could be used to enhance seedperformance.Soybean seeds were exposed to a multi filamentous DBD discharge. Thedielectric barrier of the discharge consisted in a Pertinax 2.5 mmplaque and 2 0.1 mm layers of Mylar and 3 Ternophase 0.4 mm plaqueson top of which the seeds were deposited. Different gases (O2and N2)were used to transport the active agents of the plasma. The seedswere irradiated for 1 minutes using either O2or N2.To study the qualities of the plant, different oxidative stressmarkers and biometrical parameters were assayed. Theevaluated treatments demonstrated an increase in germinative powerand vigor. In this work, we found that leaf area, plant weight andchlorophyll content. were increased by the NTP treatments. Inaddition, we observed that the NTP treatments had an increase in theactivities for most of the oxidative enzymes; on the other hand,TBARS content was not modified respect to the control. Weconclude that this environmentally friendly technology is a goodmethod for the improvement of the biochemical qualities of thesoybean seeds and increases the crop production.
