Resumen:
The aim of this study was to perform the isolation and characterization of new native strains ofBacillus thuringiensis, as well as, the description of new sequences of Cry proteins that could be used to develop biological products for control of insect populations of national importance in agriculture. As a result, is have isolated native strains of B. thuringiensis, mostly from soil samples, obtaining a collection that was morphologically, toxicologically and genetically characterized. Most of the isolates were found to have bipyramidal crystals and were toxic to insects of the order Lepidoptera. Although most of the isolates were morphologically similar to the commercial strain, subspecie kurstaki HD1 strain, the results of genetic characterization and immunodetection assays indicated that the new isolates are different from HD1 strain. In addition, some strains showed particular toxicities and kind of crystal. Methodological strategies were developed to identify and sequenced genes encoding new Cry proteins.
