Resumen:
Petrified woods of Pliocene-Pleistocene from fluvial sands of ltuzaingo Formation are described and assigned to Moraceac and Rutaceae families. The .specimens were found in Toma Vieja fossiliferous locality, Parana, Entre Rios, Argentina. The fossil descriptions arc ba ed on four anatomically preserved stems. The presence of a combination of characters in each one allowed distinguishing these families of other dicotyledon us. The most related extant genera are Soro cea A. St. Hil. and Balfourodendro n C rr. Mello ex Oliv. The relationship and comp rison with the nearest living relatives are discussed to determine their paleoecological and pal ogeagraphical characteristics. The presence of these fossil woods suggests the exi tence of paleocommunity linked Seasonally Dry Tropical Forest (SDTF), which at present arc relict in isolated locality of South America, but in the pa t were more widespread to the East and South in American continent.
