Resumen:
El Palmar Formation is a fluvial unit d eposited during the Middle Pleistocene that the probably belongs to the Last Interglacial(IS5),an intervalconsidered themosthumidand warmoftheMiddlePleistocene.Thesedeposits(TL dated 80,670± 13,420 years SP) are found in outcrops along the western m. ruin of the ruguay River, between th Mo oretaRivera nd onccpciondel Uruguaycity.Theprofileismainlycomposed ofmedium, reddishandyellowish sand.Lensesof grovelandpebbles, dozensofmeterslong upto2m thick, areinterspersedinquartzosesandmass. he coarse trac tions arccomposedof chalcedony.Insectorslateralto these conglomeratelenses, thepresenceof medium to thicksandstonewithplanarstratification richinfossil woodsremainsisfrequent. The phytolith assemblageswerepresentedthrough outthe profile. ThereClHlstructionofthe vegetation based onpaleobotanicalrecordsand se dimentary deposits indicated a warm-temperate and humid to subh umid climJtl'. The palaeovegetation would have co mformed subtropical dry forests d ominated by Anacardiac ' iH' and Fabaceae, subtropical humid mixed io re st~ and pal m savanna.
