Resumen:
Since the beginning of archaeological research in Northeastern Argentina, the continental plains of Entre Ríos province has received scarce attention. In order to fill this archaeological gap, systematic research in Gualeguay department has begun since 2012. In this paper, the results of the archaeological surveys and the analysis of recovered materials are presented. The survey design was carried out following the major geomorphological environments and was aimed to assess the variability and distribution of the archaeological record. Sixteen archaeological sites were detected, most of which are located on fluvial geoforms of Gualeguay river alluvial plain. The pottery is the most ubiquitous record on the study area and evidence of its manufacture is present in several sites. The archaeofaunal assemblage is characterized by the predominance of cervids and the presence of open-area taxa. The majority of lithic artifacts were manufactured on sandstone, chalcedony and silicified limestone. The presence of local stones as well as long and medium distance raw materials is assessed in order to discuss lithic procurement and its linkage with mobility and interaction networks.
