Resumen:
New challenges to conduct training in recent years have resulted in strong collaborations betweenoperational and academics institutions in Argentina. This talk is focused on the training activitiesto improve understanding and forecasting of High Impact Weather (HIW) Events. In August 2013, a workshop on Nowcasting Techniques identified significant weakness in the shortterm forecasting?nowcasting process at theNational Meteorological Service of Argentina (NMS)and in neighboring countries. In response, the ALERT.AR Project was bornand is aimed atproducing better warnings and watches for HIW Events. Under the ALERT.AR Project, the firstinteragency workshop on Optimization of Forecasting HIW Events was held, providing anopportunity for interaction between the operational sector, academia and emergency managersto identify problems and generate innovative solutions. This workshop will be repeated annually atthe NMS.The NMS and the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences of the University of BuenosAires, are collaborating on a project to build Conceptual Models (CMs) for the SouthernHemisphere.Based on the extensive research results from theSouth American Low Level Jet (SALLJ)Experiment held in 2002-2003, the first CM developed was, the SALJJ and its relationship withMesoscale Convective Systems over Southeastern South America.Another international multi-agency field campaign, called RELAMPAGO (Remote sensing ofElectrification, Lightning, And Meso-scale/micro-scale Processes with Adaptive GroundObservations) is being organized for Spring-Summer 2017. The main purpose of RELAMPAGO is tostudy the multi-scale aspects of convective storms with extreme characteristics and impacts, producing HIW Events.
