Resumen:
Electrochemotherapy in veterinary medicine is a very useful technique which is being increasingly used in recent years. Latin America began only withtwo countries, Argentina and Brazil, with theirs teams trained in Europe, obtaining excellent results. Due to the availability of electroporation devices, new vets took the risk and bought the machine and started performing the treatment with little or no training at all. Even though the technique is simple, the adequate application of the electrodes, and selection of patients is crucial for obtaining good results. Usually poor results are obtained by untrained professionals mainly because there is a lack of understanding of the electric field effects and also lack of expertise configuring the electroporation device. For those reasons we developed this course, in order to provide up to date information in Spanish, hands-on work with models, cadavers and also patients. The course is very intensive: 5 days, 7 hours each day of theoretical and hands-on work. In two editions of the course, 14 veterinarians were trained. 12 startedusing ECT in their practice. Peru, Mexico, Ecuador and Paraguay started using ECT. In Argentina, besides in Buenos Aires, ECT is performed in 4 more cities. The vets who took the course performed more than 100 treatments in the first year. We are in contact with all the participants to share experiences, knowledge and to support their use of ECT in everyday practice. A third edition of the course is being organized and also, an online curse is being developedfor improving the access for veterinarians in all Latin America.
