Resumen:
Land plants that concentrate atmospheric CO2 via C4 photosynthesis are characterized by a leaf anatomy with two structurally specialized photosynthetic cell types, mesophyll and bundle sheath (Kranz anatomy). Two species, Bienertia cycloptera and Borszczowia aralocaspica (family Chenopodiaceae); accomplish C4 photosynthesis within a single chlorenchyma cell. Both species are able to perform the novel form of C4 photosynthesis by the intracellular partitioning of enzymes and organelles in two compartments.
