Resumen:
The impurities in drugs often possess unwanted pharmacological or toxicological effects. Therefore, it is quite obvious that the products intended for human consumption must be characterized as completely as possible. Thus, the analytical activities concerning impurities in drugs are among the most important issues in modern pharmaceutical analysis. In this way the use of capillary electrophoresis has been found to be a very good technique for many years in pharmaceutical industry. Bisphosphonates have proven efficacy in the treatment of metastic bone disease, including hypercalcemia of malignancy and in the management of postmenopausal osteoporosis(1). Because there is no chromophore for UV or fluorescence detection and no suitable groups for derivatization, few analytical previously reported methods applying ion-exchange chromatography (2) or ion-pair reverse-phase liquid chromatography (3), require long time for the sample preconcentration or derivatization using GC analysis (4). Herein, we report the analysis of various bisphosphonates including ibandronate, foscarnet and zoledronic acid among with their related impurities by capillary electrophoresis with indirect-UV detection (5). 1) R.G.
