Resumen:
Summary: As the major protein in animal tissues, type I collagen is a constituent of choice for the design of biomaterials aiming at tissue repair. While a biomimetic approach, based on physico-chemical parameters, allows for the preparation of materials with various structures and physical properties from type I collagen alone, it was sometimes found necessary to incorporate additional constituents, being bioorganic, organic or inorganic to improve their biofunctionality. In this presentation, we will more particularly focus on the formation of bionanocomposites where nanoparticles made from silica or biodegradable polymers were used to develop novel medicated wound dressings. In the meantime, we will illustrate the whole process that starts from the design of the material and ends with its in vivo evaluation (Fig. 1). Finally, we will present recent results related to more complex types of nanoparticles as well as some perspectives to widen the field of applications of type I- based collagen biomaterials.
