Resumen:
In a previous work, some argentine plant species were selected to investigate different activities related to potential uses in cosmetic. The hydroalcoholic extract of the argentine medicinal species Eupatorium candolleanum (ECH) presented high in vitro antioxidant activity (824 µM Trolox) (1). Chromatographic profile of this species evidenced the presence of flavonoid and polyphenolic compounds. These type of compounds have been recognized as having antioxidant capacity (Kurek et al, 2014), and then, they could be responsible of the activity of this extract. These results makes ECH a promissory active for the investigation of its possible uses as functional topical antioxidant. Thus, the aim of the present work was to evaluate the in vivo antioxidant activity of this natural ingredient, manifested by:The integrity of skin barrier in healthy volunteers treated with ECH, by measuring its response on the transepidermal loss of water (TEWL) andThe effect on the erythema induced by capsaicin (EIC). Also to carry on preliminary studies of chemical composition and chromatographic profiles of the active extract, with the scope of finding the antioxidant compounds present in ECH.
