Resumen:
This chapter summarizes and brings a critical evaluation of the advantages and disadvantagesof the properties and applications of chitin for sorption processes. Also discusses potentialphysical and chemical modifications and future considerations. The study of the adsorptiveproperties and the ways for enhancement them or increasing the selectivity for a specificsorbate is a spreading topic as a consequence of the need for more controlled pollutanteffluent management. Moreover, the possibilities of isolating valuable or marketablemolecules from those effluents or industrial subproducts demand the development of novelsorbents that satisfied the regulatory compliments and process economy. Chitin is the secondmost abundant natural polymer may, at least potentially, fulfill these requirements
