Resumen:
The aim of tbis study was to evaluate the neuropharmaeologieal profile of the Eupatorium buniifolium aqueous extraet (EB) in mice. EB at dos es up to 1.5 g/kg p.o. of the Iyophilized material produeed a dose dependent sleep induetion and potentiation of sub-hypnotie and hypnotie dos es of pentobarbital, respeetively. However, EB neither modified the spontaneous motor aetivity nor produeed a myorelaxant effeet. Moreover, EB 1.5 gI kg in a nose-poke habituation task, produeed a dismption of the normal patterns of habituation, and in a step-down inhibitory avoidanee task, indueed an amnesie effeet similar to diazepam. These results suggest that the aetivity of EB may be a CNS-depressant. Copyright @ 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     Keywords: Eupatorium buniifolium; central depressant effect.
