Resumen:
Antioxidant enzymes in submandibulary glands modulate reactive oxygen species (ROS), this effect contributes to the maintenance of oral health. ROS such as H2O2 and O2.- produce lipid peroxidation, DNA and protein oxidation affecting oral mucosa and gingival tissues.Larrea divaricata Cav. is a South America plant widely distributed in Argentine, with a well documented antioxidant activity. In this work it was demonstrated that, an aqueous extract from L. divaricata (AE), exerted a modulator effect on ROS of normal rat submandibulary glands, acting on antioxidant enzymes such as peroxidase, catalase and superoxide dismutase.
