Resumen:
Interpersonal violence and prosocial behavior are very important issues in contemporary society. There is a critical need to increase the availability of quality infant care. Family is the main group for handing down socially values and rules. Parental acceptance and attachment that assure children high nurturance and moderate control seem facilitate the development of social competence during early childhood and beyond. In this paper we present a longitudinal study about the influence of parental acceptance in the development of children-peer relationships. Parental Style Perception Inventory in 8 to 12 year children (Richaud, 2003), and Argentine versions (Richaud, Sacchi, Moreno, 1999) of Friendship Scale (Bukowski, 1994), Social Competence Scale (Harter, 1982), and Kerns’ Security Scale (Kerns, Klepac & Coie, 1996) were administered, during years 2003 and 2005, to 500 children, 7-12 year old, that attended to primary schools from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Scale score comparisons along the two years, are realized through MANOVA for repeated measures. Parental acceptance, attachment and availability to obtain parent help with facing difficulties, create not only feelings of trust in parents but also in peers, having different characteristics in different development stages.
