Resumen:
The aim of the article is to introduce a new device in perinatal mental health that allows the expression of emotions and problems related to birth. Perinatal psychology is a new area in psychology that involves: pregnancy, delivery, puerperium and the first months of the baby. The entrance of psychologists in the field of perinatal medicine, introducing psychosocial interventions to the interdisciplinary work, collaborates to understand the problematic of critical birth situations. Perinatal Psychological Interview (PPI) is an instrument that explores the characteristics of the fantasmatic, imaginary and real baby. PPI was administrated to 360 mothers in 2008 and 244 in 2009, in a maternity hospital of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The interdisciplinary work and the development of common ideologies, shared by all professionals in perinatal health enables an integral and not fragmentized approach to the problems of the mother, the baby and the family in the postpartum period.
