Whole-cell patch-clamp responses were recorded on 9-13 day old pups from adult timed-pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats. Slices were cut at 400 um and recorded at 370C perfused with oxygenated aCSF in an immersion chamber containing the synaptic blockers gabazine (GABAA antagonist), strychnine (glycine antagonist), 6-cyano-7-nitroquinoxaline-2,3-dione (AMPA/kainate receptor antagonist), APV (NMDA receptor antagonist), and mecamylamine (nicotinic receptor blocker), and also tetrodotoxin to block sodium channels. Our preliminary studies on a group of cells (n=5) show that NCS-1 at 1μM increased the amplitude of gamma band oscillations above control levels at 20, 25 and 30 min (df=6, F=4.13, p
