Extended wave packet model to calculate energy loss moments of protons in matter

Inthis work we introduce modifications to the wave-packet method proposed byKaneko (WPM) [1] to calculate the energy-loss moments of a projectiletraversing a target which is represented in terms of gaussian functions for themomentum distributions of electrons in the atomic shells. These modificationsare introduced using the Levine and Louie technique [2] to take into accountthe energy gaps corresponding to the different atomic levels of the target.
