Shadows of rotating black holes

The shadow (or apparent shape) of a rotating black hole presents a deformation respect to a circle which grows with the value of the spin parameter. We show how the shape of the shadow as seen by a distant observer can be analytically obtained for a given geometry by the study of the null geodesics. We discuss the prospects for the observation of the shadow of the Galactic supermassive black hole in the near future.
