Resumen:
We review the basic features of f (R) theories, both in the metric and Palatini formulations, their different scalar-tensor representations and the chameleon mechanism invoked to agree with the observations in the Solar System. We also put forward the theories based in modified teleparallelism f (T) theories and other alternatives, and show some recent results for cosmology and cosmic strings.
