Resumen:
We present efforts undertaken by the International Astronomical unionto evaluate the status of women in astronomy, and to establish strategiesand actions to help truly improve the role of women and prevent genderbiases in the field. In particular, we will review the role of the WorkingGroup on Women in Astronomy which, since its formation in 2003,has increased the awareness of the problem among the internationalastronomical community.
