Resumen:
We present theoretical results for the stopping power of protons in V, Nb, Cr and Mo with the aim of discuss thepresent knowledge of energy loss in these transitions metals with 3 and 4 electrons in the outer d-subshell. Thetheoretical description spans over a wide energy region, which covers from impact velocities below the Fermivelocity, to high but not relativistic ones, covering the sensitive region of the stopping maximum. We use twocomplementary formalisms, a binary non-perturbative model recently developed by our group, and with verygood results for proton and antiproton impact at low impact velocities. The other one is the known dielectricformalism, perturbative, so valid for impact velocities quite above the Fermi velocity, but including the binaryand collective excitations of the valence electrons. We obtain a good description of the experimental data in thewhole energy range. The importance of plasmon excitation at energies around the maximum is clear. We call theattention on the need of new data in Nb and Mo targets around the stopping maximum, and the lack of stoppingvalues below 30 keV in the four targets.
