Resumen:
Several compunds derived from benzimidazole N-oxides show
pharmacological and pesticide properties. For this reason, it is
important to have efficient and sustainable synthetic routes.
Available synthetic methods generally include several steps since Noxides
have not been obtained by direct oxidation of benzimidazoles.
Most of the methods include cyclization in basic medium of 2-
nitroanilines derivatives with various substituents on the amino
group and on the aromatic ring.
In classical organic chemistry, huge amounts of toxic solvents are
used for isolation and purification of products. In addition, the
energetic consumption for heating the different reactions is one of
the great problems in organic methods. Considering these two
concerns, we focus in the development of new synthetic procedures
in order to obtain benzimidazole and benzimidazole N-oxides
derivatives reducing the amount of organic solvents, or in
solventless conditions, and using microwave radiation as energy
source.
The research group has developed an efficient synthetic method, but
from the point of view of green chemistry we believe that it should be
better.
