Resumen:
The first public product of the Intergovernmental Platform onBiodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) is its ConceptualFramework. This conceptual and analytical tool, presentedhere in detail, will underpin all IPBES functions and providestructure and comparability to the syntheses that IPBES willproduce at different spatial scales, on different themes, and indifferent regions. Salient innovative aspects of the IPBESConceptual Framework are its transparent and participatoryconstruction process and its explicit consideration of diversescientific disciplines, stakeholders, and knowledge systems, including indigenous and local knowledge. Because the focuson co-construction of integrative knowledge is shared by anincreasing number of initiatives worldwide, this frameworkshould be useful beyond IPBES, for the wider research andknowledge-policy communities working on the links betweennature and people, such as natural, social and engineeringscientists, policy-makers at different levels, and decisionmakersin different sectors of society.
