Resumen:
Recent work have demonstrated a variety of complex behaviors exhibited by mitochondrial net-works. Large scale cell-wide oscillations of mitochondrial energy states were observed after localperturbations, as well as a second order phase transitions as a function of diverse manipulations. In this work we look at the structural properties of the organelle in mouse fibroblast (MEFs),cataloguing the most relevant features of their topology. After that we perturbed their normalfunction with two manipulations with opposite effects: Mitofusin (MFN1), a protein that pro-motes mitochondria fusion, and Paraquat, a drug which produces mitochondrial fragmentation. The data is then compared with predictions of a simple computational model of the mitochondrialnetwork at various regimes.
