Resumen:
Weed management decision support systems (DSS) are increasingly importantcomputer-based tools for modern agriculture. Nowadays, extensive agriculture hasbecome highly dependent on external inputs, and both economic costs and the negativeenvironmental impact of agricultural activities demand knowledge-based technologyfor the optimization and protection of nonrenewable resources. In thiscontext, weed management strategies should aim to maximize economic profit bypreserving and enhancing agricultural systems resources. Although previous contributionsfocusing on weed biology and weed management provide valuable insighton many aspects of weed species ecology and practical guides for weed control, noattempts have been made to highlight the forthcoming importance of DSS in weedmanagement. This book is a first attempt to integrate ?concepts and practice? providinga novel guide to the state of the art of DSS and the future prospects, whichhopefully would be of interest to higher-level students, academics, and professionalsin related areas.
