Resumen:
We propose a mathematical model to describe the infection with human T-cell lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I). Immune response and the possible development of adult T-cell leukemia (ATL) are considered. This model is formulated by a set of six nonlinear ordinary differential equations, one for each of the different cell types involved. We study the equilibria and calculate the basic reproduction number R 0 . Solutions converging to the equilibrium and oscillatory solutions are also studied.Approximate expressions for them are obtained by the multistage homotopic analysis method (MSHAM) and compared with numerical solutions. Finally, we analyze a modification of the model to take into account the saturation effect on the growth of cytotoxic lymphocytes.
