Resumen:
Composite membranes can be prepared by coating films with hydrophilic polymermaterials on a porous support membrane. The film thickness can be reduced to the point where thesupport surface is completely covered by the coating material. Mechanical properties can be adjusted bysuitable choice of the porous membrane carrier, which offers negligible resistance to mass transfer. Themembranes of polyethersulfone (PES) were synthesized through a phase inversion process. The densehydrophilic skin was deposited by casting technique. The coating solution was a hydrophilic polymer(PVA) and the crosslinking agent maleic acid. To promote crosslinking of the deposited polymer heattreatment was applied to the composite membranes. The chemical composition of the surface of the denseand composite membranes was analyzed from spectra obtained by Horizontal Attenuated TotalReflectance InfraRed Spectroscopy (HATR-FTIR). The thermal properties of the crosslinked compositemembranes PVA / PES were investigated by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and differentialscanning calorimetry (DSC). FTIR spectra of the PVA membranes show that the thermally inducedcrosslinking between the maleic acid and the PVA was carried out by an esterification reaction.Reticulated composite membranes PVA / PES have good thermal properties, and a decreased relativedegree of crystallinity.Palabras claves: polímeros hidrofílicos, membranas compuestas.Keywords: hydrophilic polymers, composite membranes
