Resumen:
In the operations of dust producing industries, for hygiene and safety reasons, localized ventilation facilities are required to capture and transport the dust through ducts. In order to reduce the erosion of such ducts and the energy consumption of the aspirating equipment, it is advantageous that the design velocity of the air flow be the lowest possible, corresponding to the transport saltation velocity of the particles. The technical literature provides values of such minimum air velocity through different correlations. In this paper, the minimum transport velocity for different materials and particle sizes is determined experimentally for two duct diameters. These resulting are verified with those calculated using the aforementioned correlations and the influence of the duct size in the calculation of the transport saltation velocity is studied
