Resumen:
Spore former bacteria, mainly those of the genus Bacillus are being used as probiotic additives in Animal Nutrition. In this paper, two strains belonging to the Bacillus subtilis group had been isolated from calves’ faeces and evaluated for their beneficial properties for the design of a novel probiotic product. Surface properties, biosurfactant and emulsification production were assayed. Spores resulted to be more hydrophobic than vegetative cells. One of the selected strain showed bisurfactant and emulsification capabilities. Inhibitory assays against some pathogenic bacteria and peroxide production were performed as a way to detect antimicrobials compounds. Both of the strains showed inhibitory properties, but they were not completely identified yet. Finally, the selected strains will be further studies for their safety properties for the combination with some Lactobacillus probiotic strains to the design of a novel product to be use in Animal Nutrition
