Resumen:
In the framework of the implementation of management policies of territories by the Guarani of Misiones, we have contributed to this process by developing a participatory method to determine priority plant species for conservation and restoration in the context of the communities. The experience was developed in five communities of the central zone of the province. The method consisted in the participative determination of two variables, the value of importance (VI) of the plants and the its availability (VA). In both cases, a simple scoring method by means of stone distribution (MDS) was used. The conditions of participation were discussed within the communities and it was concluded that to address the variability of interests within each community it is necessary to establish at least three groups (adult men, adult women and children).First, a scoring exercise was carried out using MDS to obtain a score ranking (VI) of the 10 most important species considered for each group. The second step consisted in obtaining also by means of MDS an availability value (VA) of each of the species, a task that by community decision was entrusted to adult men because they know better the forest. We then obtained the priority value (VP), which results from the quotient VI / VD.The selected species were those that presented higher values of priority (VP), that is, those with greater value of importance and less availability in the community environment. This does not necessarily suggest that they are endangered species at the regional level, since certain species with high VP are frequent in their distribution area, but scarce in the community context. As a result, strategies were established to increase the availability of these species, including regulating their use, increasing the territorial area to incorporate them, restoring viable areas for the establishment of populations, incorporating them into family gardens.
