Resumen:
A taxonomic revision of the Brazilian species of the genus Bulbostylis Kunth (Cyperaceae) is presented. Based on field collections, observation of populations in the field, and revision of collections from 60 herbaria, 41 species were confirmed for Brazil. Data on external morphology, a key to taxa, descriptions, illustrations, taxonomic and nomenclatural comments, data on habit, and geographic distributions are provided for all the taxa analyzed. We proposed as a new synonymy one specific name (Bulbostylis major), eight varieties (Bulbostylis junciformis var. ambigua, B. junciformis var. fulvicoma and var. speciosa, B. juncoides var. nana, var. ampliceps, and var. lorentzii, B. lanata var. xyrioides and B. sphaerocephala var. macrocephala) and two forms (B. juncoides f. lorentzii and f. subfimbriata). We lectotypified nine species (Bulbostylis arenaria, B.consanguinea, B. fendleri, B. fimbriata, B. graminifolia, B.juncoides, B. langsdorffiana, B loefgrenii and B. paraensis) and two varieties (Bulbostylis junciformis var. ambigua and B. sphaerocephala var. macrocephala). Furthermore, we neotipified two species (Bulbostylis sellowiana and Scirpus setifolius). In addition, one new species was described (Bulbostylis fimbristyloides) The distribution area of six species were amplified (Bulbostylis amambayensis, B. carajana, B. conspicua, B.  eleocharoides B. jacobinae and Bulbostylis splendens) and Bulbostylis filamentosa was excluded from the study area.
