Resumen:
Among the different vegetable oils, tung oil (TO), which is obtained from seeds or wood of the tung tree, has already proved to be a suitable raw material to produce polymeric precursors with high hydroxyl number by using its carbon-carbon double bonds1 as reactive sites. The hydroxylated TO (HTO) can be incorporated then into polyurethane (PU) formulations as the polyol component able to react with isocyanates1. On the other hand, the HTO can be also chemically modified to produce others interesting polymeric precursors. Just to mention one example, the OH groups can be reacted with maleic anhydride to add reactive unsaturations able to polymerize in presence of a free radical initiator2. Thus, the aim of this work is to synthesize and characterize multifunctional HTO to be later used as precursor of biobased thermoset polymeric materials.
