Resumen:
In order to increase the use of bio resources and reduce the total emissions of volatile organic compounds, waterborne polyurethanes (WBPUs) derived from vegetable oil (castor oil, CO) and a biobased carboxylic acid, have been developed. Consequently, WBPUs were synthetized with tartaric acid (TA), that can be obtained from grapes. On the other hand, cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) have been used as bio-reinforcement for these polyurethanes (also increasing the use of bio resources). Preliminary studies are presented in this work focused on the potential application of the prepared WBPUs as coatings. The performance of these preparations was analyzed from the results of macro and microscopic tests.
